Coventry Bees Have Signed Steve Johnston In Replace of Morten Risager
The experienced 35-year-old rider Steve Johnston is to remain in the Sky Sports Elite League after signing for Coventry Bees, who he joins with immediate effect. 'Johnno', as he is known within the sport, signed for the club following the termination of his former club Oxford - and will make his Bees debut against his former team Ipswich next Thursday.
The former Sheffield, Long Eaton, Oxford and Belle Vue rider will come into the side to replace the struggling Dane Morten Risager, who is to be released.
The Bees co-promoter Colin Pratt has also reiterated that the club are currently in the process of monitoring their team after some poor performances as of late.
Pratt said: "It's always sad to tell a rider he is being released, and Morten was very disappointed. His form lately has not been good. I wonder if he took on too much by racing in four different leagues at his age.
"We feel a change will benefit both Morten and ourselves, and we will circulate his name to other tracks. He's still our asset, and we certainly don't rule out him returning to Brandon at some stage in the future.
"It's clear that our middle-order has been flagging lately, and that's why we've brought Steve in.
"He made it clear that he wanted to ride for us, and has wanted to do so earlier in his career, and he should benefit from being in a stronger side than he has in the last few years - so hopefully it will be a good move for everyone concerned."

Can't see the point of the change myself. Risager should have been told to drop one of the other clubs.
Johno is not the answer!
